History Park…Like Going Back in Time!

Post office at History Park

We’ve lived in San Jose for over a decade now, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that we stumbled across a super cute part of San Jose called History Park. It’s located near the Happy Hollow Park Zoo, and the Japanese Friendship Garden, so there is a lot packed nearby. History Park is really cool because it has historical and reproduced buildings that give a glimpse into the history of San Jose and Santa Clara County. It’s truly like walking back in time.

During certain hours of the day, you can tour the different buildings and learn fun facts about San Jose and beyond. For instance, I had no idea that San Jose’s orchard history is quite extensive! I found this out on my self-guided tour of History Park.

You can visit the various buildings and learn about the rich history associated with this area. A one-room schoolhouse is also on site, featuring old rules that definitely have not aged well! The dentist office is also a trip; it will make you appreciate the dentistry of today!

We went to History Park today because there was an Italian Family Festa on site. The festival featured an accordion player, cultural exhibits, food (ravioli, yum!), a grape stomping contest, and more! All kinds of festivals and cultural events are held throughout the year at History Park, so that’s another really cool aspect of History Park.

Honestly, I can’t truly describe History Park because it’s probably the most unique aspect of San Jose that we’ve found. When you think about San Jose, you primarily think about tech, and so History Park is the complete opposite of that. But it’s quite fascinating and work checking out, with kids or without. And there’s a fun trolley you can ride as well. Oh, and did I mention that many events at History Park are free? You’re welcome!

A gas station at History Park. How cool!
